115 | DARK HEAT

My mid summer pick looks in an illustration set. I go with Julius, T by Alexander Wang and Rick Owens. All with shorts attached on each looks. Yet each designers did a different execution of the short shorts, though. Also, the famous Rick Owens X Adidas futuristic running shoes is such an obsession, along with the voluminous neck sleeve from Julius is the thing in my personal mood board.
P.S. I'm running my own personal illustration blog and I called it Rustic Strokes. Do give a visit at http://rusticstrokes.tumblr.com :) :)

098 | WHITE WHITE

So, I personally have no idea why I feel that I am way more productive during midnight. Just like I did at this time (1.30 AM in the morning; I can't sleep). I am searching for a magazine cover that is photogenic enough for me to illustrate and I found the latest Harper's Bazaar US cover for March 2014 featuring Hillary Rhoda. I am loving how the stylist brought the androgynous feature in Hillary Rhoda's feminine look as we might see; and also the strong yet clean line cut of Calvin Klein's outfits here. Totally good for me to improve my drawing skill.
Model: Hillary Rhoda
Photographed: Daniel Jackson
Outfit: Calvin Klein Collection and Jennifer Fisher necklace

095 | MIDNIGHT LIGHTS

MIDNIGHT LIGHTS
16 pages on A5 Linen Paper

Midnight Lights is a personal project I did in a mission to do a photography exploration using low light and slow exposure as its main medium. The concept of Midnight Lights itself is how could we see the city I live in in different angle. Because as we know, Jakarta is well known for its concrete jungle, the city that never sleeps; and the peoples is indirectly living in the love-hate relationship-an agony. They cursed the city for its endless traffic yet that is the place where they fight for their lives to gained some money.
Here, I would like to explore how the city looked like when most of the peoples are living in their other world; a reversed life cycle. Lights and silences. It illuminates the dark in an effortless minimal look. Because now I know, the city looked way beautiful with less lights and noise. I was doubt if I could find the inner peace of the city through these photographs, though. But there you go. More on my Behance site.

092 | LEPIDOPTERA V02

And since I haven't post since the end of Indonesia Fashion Week, I sort several photos I took during the shows. And if I have enough time, I would really love to review all shows I attended. But give me time to do anything now. And here is another stuffs I made. I kinda put my attention more into butterflies lately. And this one, I tried to make this simple illustration of Alexander McQueen's look couple season a go with the crazy butterly headpiece on the model. For now, my colorful side speaks. Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2008. Look 6

LEFT GIULIANO FUJIWARA F/W 2010
RIGHT YOHJI YAMAMOTO S/S 2012

Still some more masterpieces from Southern Asian countries. Two things that completely different from the style and fashion target. But for somehow I see how powerless the pictures are; one from their gestures, and the other one from their outfits. Skinny male and man skirt portrayed as a minor menswear items for so-called mainstream fashion; they said. But then, world is getting boring if all peoples are similar. Yohji-kun took a very risky steps but somehow, I can say that he passed it very well.

048 | November Rain

So, pardon for the lack of posts. The business starts getting harder. I had to handle many promotional designs for my office needs and after all it went quite smooth, though. And, it's November and yes, the rain came like almost everyday. My co-workers starts doing more layers on their outfit; so do I. Fall fashion has always exciting. The boldness of each looks are able to create some gloomy and dramatic mood.

Until I see one of the look from Burberry Prorsum's Spring 2012-- yes, it's from Spring. Since Burberry seems keep their DNA by doing trench coat in any seasons. Navy color is one of my favourite color in Fall season; or let's call it rainy season since I am living in an exotic tropical country.

Another thing that popped out why I choose the trench coat from their Spring collection is, the fabric is obviously not as bold as their Fall season. It's quite humid here in Indonesia when the rain stops and the lightweighted coat or parka would be good at this rainy season. White beanie & shirt are my personal pick for the look (Yes, it's Maison Martin Margiela on the graphic collage. They are just good), combined with either navy or indigo trousers and moccasins.

041 | Visual Moodboard

My second week working at the office. Things are good recently. The air con is quite freezing me since there are only about 10 persons in my working floor. My sleeping time is getting normal now (thank you God) and also, I only got my time running on the weekend. But I still able to swim after my office hour; yes, running and swimming are the sport I recently do to maintain my weight since I am unable to join Capoeira like I did in university. OK, just a short intro about how my time management changed for a week.
I do have more time blogging at the office (like I am doing now) if I have no queueing work(s) as well. Browsing about stuffs I love and arrange it into a graphic mood board. Like these 3 stuffs, the famous Alexander Wang's signature dress from his Spring.Summer collection, the low cut shorts look with bold fabrics are my little obsession during the weather. Fall scene is still running, so ...

Saraswati is a Hindu Goddess, representing knowledge, music, arts & science. The common Hindu peoples are worshipping the Goddess of Saraswati as the day of knowledge. A little interpretation I did in digital collage for the Saraswati Day. Omswastiastu.

"A book is like a garden carried in the pocket." - Chinese Proverbs

I recently have more free times just now and I just want to use it by learning any other form of arts. This one is a digital collage I made inspired from an old Chinese proverbs I found at the internet. I also tried to combine with my illustrations & simple shape as well. Oh, this flower illustration is a little clue about my upcoming project. So excited to working on it and hopefully it goes well until the final artwork is done !

21 x 29.7 cm. Drawing pen on recycled paper; finished in Adobe Photoshop

Been wanting to study my skill in plantation illustration. And this one is black orchid I made in MUJI's A4 recycled paper. I scanned the paper then I colour the flowers with achromatic tones in Adobe Photoshop. Still need so many times to study my illustration skill since I've got more free times while waiting for my Bachelor's graduation sooner.

022 | Computer Apparel

So, it's been 2 weeks after I get my Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communication. Recently busy with my pre-graduation stuffs, also got some freelance projects right after I graduate (Yay !), meanwhile I'm still looking for any other possible opportunities, probably ? To refresh this blog, let me post a personal look today.
Jacket : Uniqlo | Self made drop crotch shorts | Shoes : Converse (2011) | iPad Apparel : Verre

Now, let me tell you a little good thing from this look. Here I go. I would like to share a bit about this promising Indonesian brand, another business that has been developed by one of my (literally) favourite lecturer in my university. Say hi to Verre Compparel. Or if some of you might confuse with the definition of Compparel is; it stands for Computer Apparel.

I've been wanted to have one of the item back at the time I saw the product at Brightspot Market 2011. It's prety simple why. Since I was a visual design student and I am just another Apple fan boy, I often thinking that why my gadgets are like .. Naked ? Also, since I'm a quite obsessive-compulsive, putting sticker on my laptop or iPad surface is totally not a good thing for me because just in case when I put the sticker out from my laptop, the surface would definitely gone like "euwh those kind of glue stickers" whatsoever.

My personal design I did for my personal iPad

But when I knew that this brand Verre offers a very good innovation in my opinion, I started to think like okay, let's try this. You literally need no glue to put it on your Apple gadgets (Okay, it's also available on Blackberry, Samsung or even Nintendo DS). What else ? It's removable and washable as well. And I do like this kind of innovation like, seriously. Also, I got my chance to put my own design into it. And I choose my personal line art illustration into my iPad and Batik inspired illustration to my laptop (I promise, am gonna post it very soon !).
Verre's smooth surface product is just more than good because for me, I need no additional case either for my iPad & laptop as well. And at the end, it's kinda good to know that my gadgets are no longer naked !

Psst !
Just in case you would like to spend some cash for this good local brand, they're having a good 20% discount sale at their online shop until Aug 15, and also 15% - 30% at The Goods Dept Pondok Indah Mall 2 and Pacific Place. More info ? Just click their website and Facebook page.

020 | But I'm Feeling Twenty Two

15 x 21 cm. Mix media (Various sizes of drawing pen. Finished in Adobe Photoshop)

Things I'm getting sure about life is, there is a person that stays with you when you were a little, then you grew up together, and grow old together. It also happened to me. Since I met these young girl back at elementary school. Then we went to same junior high until we separate at high school and fortunately, we took same major in university- even though we attended different uni, though.

This is a little & quick illustration for my childhood friend as her birthday gift. A pretty simple since I have no idea what to buy. But I do have some free time, paper, pen and some ideas. Then there I go, a little illustration for my childhood friend. I do feel the vibe of your twenty two, have a good day ahead, Desak Ratih Vidyana Saraswati :-)

018 | Eksotika Teluk Jakarta

Final Project for my Bachelor's Degree; Indonesian title - Perancangan Komunikasi Visual Publikasi Buku "Kepulauan Seribu - Eksotika Teluk Jakarta"

Everything was begun back at last year when I was one of the finalist of Abang None Jakarta Kepulauan Seribu. There's a sharing session from the senior, Bang Ghivari Pahlevi- Abang Jakarta Kepulauan Seribu 2009. He asked to all finalists, "What kind of contribution you would do as a tourism ambassador based on your educational background ?"

When it turned to mine, I originally answered that I would like to re-brand the logos of some islands of Kepulauan Seribu because in my opinion, the logos are kinda like oldish for a modern era like now. And a year later, I really got my chance to take some actions on my answer from my senior's question on the sharing session. As simple as that.

Sneak peek of the brochure design, promotion poster & the book packaging

So, the process was not that easy because I was doing another 2 projects for Teater Abang None Jakarta, both as a performer & publication designer in SoekmaDjaja. That means, I literally running 3 projects at the same time. Last 5 months was drop dead crazy. I do really manage my time like fuck I nearly have no sleep meanwhile Starbucks is kinda like a home for me. I mostly did everything in Starbucks, both my final project & SoekmaDjaja in a day and doing the choreography & acting routine at night. I went home, woke up, fly to Starbucks then doing the theatre routine. That was my life cycle back at the time and I really have no idea how come I could ever be that strong in literal meaning.

Back to my final project. I clearly see myself as another graphic designer who believe with the philosophy of the less. Yes, I do mostly minimalist approaches back at my university life. It is not because I am not good in another style but I think every graphic designers out there would always have their own personal style, don't they ? And here, I really push the things I often did during my early semester; layout & typography.

I've done my book in 202 pages and if some of you are wondering which part that took the longest time to finish; it is not how many pages I've done, yet it's about the font I personally design for this project. You see the cover of my book ? It's a typographic cut-out of my self designed font. And I personally satisfied with the result.

I sacrifice so many things for this final project (Well, don't we all sacrifice so many things, too ?). I went to both Kepulauan Seribu Utara and Kepulauan Seribu Selatan twice- back at this March and May. I got sun burned when I went to Pulau Air, I only able to do 3 meters deep free diving at the underwater chapter of my book (Special thanks to Khumaidhi Kamal, 4th runner up of Abang Jakarta Kepulauan Seribu 2010 that helped me a lot do snap some corals and he did 5 meters free diving. A true Islander !) and I swallow a lot of saltwater and it tastes like EUWH. I nearly broke my DSLR at Pulau Untung Jawa and I got "haunted" at Pulau Onrust.

Until the D-Day came, I really have no idea because I personally regret because I could not focus to my final project because I was assigned to do SoekmaDjaja as well. But again, the Almighty showed me His bless and my reaction when I know my final score is pure from the bottom of my heart. I was reminiscing my time back at university. I never knew how good I could go and I just an ordinary visual design student. What else ? Pardon my exaggeration but this means a LOT to me. It's not about winning or losing the competition. Because for me, it's all about how well you can contribute yourself to an area you represents for as a tourism ambassador. And at the end, this is for you, Kepulauan Seribu. Thank you so much for tons of great opportunity I got.
